Redding die

By Jack L. on Apr 10, 2024
I have Redding 25-20 die set with neck die too, to make 32-20 cases into 25-20 i first use 30-20 full length die then a Hornady 7mm short neck die with bottom extension ground off then size with 25-20 full length die. The intermediate step of 7mm really makes a difference I can even reform old 32-20 fired cases. Best combo I’ve found. When using the 7mm neck die just size very close to bottom of the neck.

Works very well, mostly

As James said the Starline .32-20 brass is short, so trimming is not necessary. The die is short, very short so a second die from the top works well. I ran the brass through a .32-20 full length size die any way to make sure the necks were round. If not, they can fold in, ruining the case. Also, I too tried to convert the Nagant 7.62 x 38 brass to .25-20. My results are the same as Edward had. The issue is a small, raised area (ring) near the rim. This prevents the case from chambering in my '92 Winchester. I had some success by using a Jewler's file and very, very slightly filing the ring down. I don't recommend this, filing on a case head reduces the thickness, of an already thin case. Also, there is the difference in the rim thickness of the 7.62 to the .25-20. About .012.

Worked well, but not perfectly for my needs.

I bought this to convert 7.62 Nagant casings into 25-20 WCF. It worked to an extent. After running the brass through this die and then then into a 25-20 sizing die the cartridge almost chambered all the way into my 1892 Winchester...but not all the way. Still working on it.

Don't Forget the Extended Shell Holder

By James G. on Jul 02, 2019
This die is necessarily short given it's trim function. Starline.32-20 brass is short so trimming is unnecessary (And who wants to trim with a file anyway?). You can get by inserting the die into the bottom of the die aperture of your press and fixing it by screwing another die in from the top. I am going to get an extended shell holder just because I enjoy buying Redding products.
