Due to the packaging and shipping process, case necks are often slightly dinged or bent and need to be rounded up and sized to give proper neck tension. New and/or fired cases must be full-length resized or have the expander ball of the sizing die run through the case neck prior to loading.

Poor quality from Winchester!

By KJ L. on Aug 11, 2021
The customer should not be responsible for finding obvious quality control issues. A minimum of 3/50 of the brass in my recent bag are useless! One neck arrived split and 2 necks are horrible deformed. One shoulder has a large forming dent (not a shipping dent) that might be too deep to fire form out without cracking. I do NOT mean that the deformed necks are just bent from shipping: I meant the brass itself is folded with large pieces missing. The neck walls are MISSING pieces of brass. Not worth buying if 6% are obvious trash and an unknown number are likely to fail on first firing. Split necks on new brass? Does Winchester just assume we anneal new brass before sizing it???

Not sure that there are any other options for 270WSM brass; but you would think Winchester would have more pride in making (or marketing) brass cases for a Winchester caliber... Four of the cases had bases which would not fit in the shellholder - and not due to damage or burrs that I could find. And one had such a damaged neck, that I opted to pitch it, and not even load it. At least one or two others with questionable necks - but they should be ok for a single firing. So, overall, easily a 10% reject rate; and probably more if you want to get really picky. Oh and so many necks were rough and deformed, I made sure to FL resize all of them. So these do not come ready to just load. You need to account for resizing and brass prep time.

Good quality although one of the necks was crushed from top down. I would still buy again though

I was going to send you some of the cases of the 1 st. 200 rounds I resized and trimed to length 2 necks were split, 1 case had the neck wrinkled. 5 - could not seat a primer, internal ridge, 2 would not fit in shell holder. Not happy, third time I have had trouble with Winchester brass.
