While I have almost 50 years of handgun and rifle reloading experience, I am a complete "newb" at reloading shells for my shotgun. This manual has already cleared up some of my misconceptions and set me on the path to not buy factory shotgun ammunition.

Get this book first before your order any powder or wads! There are a lot of different powder/wad combinations depending on whose hulls you intend to reload. There are websites that will have similar information, but to me having a printed book nearby allows me time review and compare all the available reloading combinations.

I just received my copy of Lyman's Shotgun Manual 5th Edition and it has some really good basic info but it is almost exclusively American products. Several years back I would have considered this ok but in today's world it needs a lot more Cheddite, Fiocchi and Rio hull information and especially wads made by B&P and Gualandi as well as other wads that aren't Winchester, Remington, Federal or Claybuster to name a few. Data for spreader wads would be great to be included. Loads for Tungsten type pellets is needed for good waterfowl loads. There is just a ton of missing data. If you are just starting out and want a good manual that covers a lot of basic data then this is ok. Or you could just go on-line and look at the powder manufacturers websites which have the same basic data as is collected here and is probably where Lyman got most of their load data.

Lots of info for the money. Could have had more info on older wads.
