Lyman 454 sizer die

Works perfectly with most standard Lyman or RCBS standard bullet molds. I often use custom molds that have a longer than normal full diameter section forward of the crimp groove so the nose of the bullet can be precisely fitted to the cylinder throat, in this situation it is necessary to push the bullet so deep into the die that the crimp groove is filled with lube. Not a desirable situation. In this situation it is best to use a RCBS sizer because the lube holes are lower in the die body. I usually buy both Lyman and RCBS dies of the same size and put the knockout stem from the Lyman into the RCBS body. I do this because of the Lyman stem is concave and the RCBS is not, the benefit to the concave stem is that it helps square the critical outside edge of the bullet base with the bullet axis to allow a clean and even release of the bullet from the barrel crown. The reason for this is that due to uneven shrinkage as the lead solidifies, the bullet base is never as square as it should be. By using the RCBS body and the Lyman stem you can solve two problems at once or if you have a lathe you can just make the RCBS stem concave.
