By John M. on Apr 23, 2023My review follows Edward B.'s observations from an earlier review.
I haven't loaded these yet so I thought I would take some quick measurements to see how consistent the manufacturing process is. I picked ten random bullets and weighed them, measured the length and took two diameter measurements 90 degrees apart.
The average weight was 229.7 grains with a spread of 1.3 grains. Average length was 0.6576" with a spread of 0.060". Out of the 10 bullets only two measured as "round" at 0.450". One measured out of round by 0.001" and the rest measured out of round by 0.0005"
Looking forward to reloading
By Edward B. on Sep 16, 2020Details: I load a lot of .45 acp with FMJ bullets. My standard load uses a different brand bullet, but everyone knows that supplies are tight in 2020. These PRVI bullets had one outstanding advantage: they were IN STOCK, and the price was good. I decided to give them a try. How do they shoot? To be honest I have not loaded any yet. But, I pulled a sample of ten bullets and measured them for weight and diameter to check consistency. Here are the results:
Meas Diameter Weight
1 0.452 230.1
2 0.451 230.3
3 0.453 230.2
4 0.452 230.2
5 0.451 230.0
6 0.451 230.1
7 0.452 230.4
8 0.451 229.8
9 0.452 230.0
10 0.450 229.7
AVE 0.452 230.1
STDDEV 0.0008 0.21
Based on my measurements I expect the bullets to perform well for my needs - plinking and informal target shooting. They are certainly more uniform than my DIY cast bullets. In these unusual times, it our American components manufacturers are having difficulty keeping up with demand. If global companies like PRVI can help meet the need, I'm happy to give them my business.
Happy shooting!
