Straight OAL Guage by Hornady

By Hugh L. on Feb 01, 2024
This is a fantastic piece of equipment. I ordered it along with a modified 6.5 x 55 case to guage my 2 Swedish Mausers. The results were amazing! After measurements were completed and test bullets were reloaded, my 5 test shots on my one Swedish Mauser were fired and all 5 were inside the diameter of a quarter at 50 yards. 2 of the shots were through the same hole!!! Going to get modified cases for my 30/06, 7.62 x 54r, 308, and 5.56 bolt rifles.

Works Very Well

By LAWRENCE F. on Feb 01, 2024
Bought the modified cases for my 243 and 30-06, but had to send in fired 270 WSM cases to Hornady to modify them. The 243 and 30-06 cases work very well, and I was surprised to find out how much bullet ogives vary, even if weight is the same. Great improvement to accuracy.

Hornady Quality

This Hornady product meets expectations and is easy to use.

Straight works great in an AR!

By RAY P. on Oct 06, 2022
This tool helped me resolve a chambering problem with factory ammo. Found out the factory Hornady ammo puts the bullet ogive firmly into the rifling. I've since used this to find a workable length for handloads in this rifle. The straight gauge works fine in my ARs

Time-saving reloding tool!

By Gary R. on Aug 06, 2020
The Hornady C.O.A.L. gauge performed as expected with both my .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor modified cases.

The gauge, combined with the Hornady modified cases allowed me to quickly and easily determine the distance to the lands for multiple rifles, using the bullets I selected. With that information in hand, I adjusted the C.O.A.L. of my test loads accordingly to achieve the right jump for my gun.

Great device.

Fits AR-15

Great gauge. In case you're wondering. The straight gauge fits an AR-15 receiver.

Excellent

Excellent tool for the reloader. Really surprised me on some of my chamber dimensions. Increased my accuracy by giving me accurate seating depths.

OAL gauge Straight body

By Kris J. on Apr 14, 2019
I really like this prouduct , works as advertised ,
the reason for the 4 star rating is the insert that
slides back and forth is made out of plastic,
for the price I expected aluminum . However
I still would recomend this prouduct to a freind .

Works better than curved

By Jeff L. on Apr 01, 2019
I had the curved model but was told, and came to see, the straight model works better for the AR 15. Does what it is designed to do and now I can get accurate readings on how far my bullet ogive is off the lands.

Excellent product

By Rich H. on Nov 26, 2018
The OAL gauge is a bit pricey for what it is, but it does exactly what it should do which is give you a reliable reading of how deeply a bullet should be seated in the case. I gave it four stars instead of five for a couple of reasons. First, because of the price for the gauge itself and for the modified case you have to purchase for every caliber that you reload for. Second, the first one of these I had broke at the end of the threads for no reason after some time, and no replacement was offered from hornady. Still, it is the cheapest way I’ve found for getting reliable readings for the over all length of any round I load for.
