Due to the packaging and shipping process, case necks are often slightly dinged or bent and need to be rounded up and sized to give proper neck tension. New and/or fired cases must be full-length resized or have the expander ball of the sizing die run through the case neck prior to loading.

very thin light brass

By Bradley M. on Jan 02, 2021
As others have commented. Lighter and thinner than other 45-70 brass. Has to be annealed to work properly. Just extra work, and cannot be mixed in with other brass. I have 3 other sources of brass that all weight within 4 grains of each other, The PPU brass is about 35 to 45 grains lighter and as mentioned, hard as a rock. For me work best with cast bullets. If using jacked bullets, I stick with Starline or S&B brass. Can be annealed by standing them in a pan of water, and hitting with a torch.

Will Not Buy Again

By Fredrick W H. on Nov 04, 2020
I bought this brass as it was the only brass I could find for a BFR Revolver in 45/70. I am very unhappy with it I am having the same issue as one of the other reviewers. It seems to spring back after you size it and several of them I had to resize 5 times to get the bullet from dropping into the powder charge. The other problem i am having is crimping it and I am using a Collet style crimp die which normally puts a very solid crimp on the case and the bullet will not move after crimping but I am having bullet pull which I think this is due to the thin nature of the brass. What I am doing now to solve this is after I crimp it I push the cartridge against the edge of my reloading bench and if it moves at all in the case I re-crimp it again and that has been working so far. Will definitely not buy this PPU brass again and would not recommend it either.

45-70 brass

By David B. on Sep 10, 2020
this brass appears to be thinner and much harder than other brands of brass i have, Its weight is about 30% less per cartridge. Out of the first 30 i loaded- 8 had to be sized 2 times to get their necks to hold the bullets. The had 2 cases that crumpled when seating the bullets. Cases had been belled properly. This brass will not be used by me- it was a waste of my money. I do not feel safe shooting it, even in a low pressure gun like the 45--70

Great looking brass

I bought this to add to my growing stock pile. Great price and quality

Have reloaded these 10 times so far

By Zachary S. on Dec 28, 2019
I bought these to try my hand with reloading 45-70. I found myself trying all kinds of bullet styles and weights. I have loaded these 10 times in the last few weeks shooting alot with my Marlin 1895 and also my trapdoor. I shot some high pressure charges and many more low velocity. The brass was only trimmed once. They dont grow. they are quality made. I screwed up loading a couple and bent them.. full length resize fixed it right up. no signs of them going bad on me. I will probably wear out the primer pocket!
