The charge weights and results noted within are not recommended, either as a starting nor completed load. They are shown merely as an indication of potential performance in one test load, shot by CIP standards.

Just Awful

I love SW powders but this stuff is just awful. I thought 777 was bad, but this takes the cake. Like everyone else I am looking for a substitute for BH209 due to cost. So I grabbed some of this and headed to the range for testing in my inline .50 ML. It was so dirty that I couldnt load a 4th shot. I mean I litterally could not even get a bullet started and I am using rib crusher sabots. I made due and did a quick spit swab. It worked and got me by for 3 more shots. After that, I had seen enough. I got home and went to clean my ML and after 7 shots it was so dirty I had to take the barrel off of my ML and put it in a vice to get the breech plug out. If that wasnt bad enough, there was a crud ring that was so terrible it took nearly 12 minutes to remove using a cordless drill, a copper cleaning brush, and JB Bore paste. It drained the battery on my Makita drill but I finally got it out. This powder will never go down the barrel of any of my MLs again. I can not and do not recommend this powder unless you’re just into old school muzzle loading/black powder pistols. Oh yeah, it smokes when you fire a load…….ALOT.

I use this in black powder cartridges, mostly 44-40 Winchester, 38-40 Winchester, 45-70 Government, 50-70 Government, 577-450 Martini-Henry and 577 Snider by weight not volume. This is a clean burning powder with regular bore cleaner and oil cleanup, which for me is a plus for leaver action guns. Love it.

black mz is back

I bought pounds when it was on sale before Alliant discontinued it. I use it in primarily in my Ruger Old Army. 45's and it is wonderfully accurate.
I've used it in my other caplock rifles as well with no complaints.
I shoot muzzleloaders and split between actual black powder and substitute powders.im not a snob that only uses "the holy black " .I use whatever I feel like using.

This powder is NOT 3f granules, more life 2f or 1f.
Does not have the power when loaded by volume compared to Pyrodex or even Goex 3f. It seems accurate enough and is cleaner than the real black powder.
Somehow, to me, I don't like it in my revolvers. There are so many better powders than this. Would not recommend.
