Due to the packaging and shipping process, case necks are often slightly dinged or bent and need to be rounded up and sized to give proper neck tension. New and/or fired cases must be full-length resized or have the expander ball of the sizing die run through the case neck prior to loading.

Product Information

This is a Bulk package of Peterson Cartridge casings, they will not come in one of their plastic ammo boxes.

Made in the U.S.A.

Match-Grade is a standard that must be held throughout the entire process of manufacturing some of the most consistent, accurate, and durable brass rifle casings available today. From Peterson's small batch production lines to their quality control department, to your bench, and on to the range. Match-grade is the standard that Peterson strives to achieve so that customers can maintain that standard all the way to the target.

Introduced by Norma in 1999, the 6.5-284 Norma is a standardized version of a concept that gunsmiths and wildcat fans have been doing for years.  The story began in 1963, when Winchester introduced a new rebated head cartridge that combined the case head of a .30-06 sized cartridge with the fatter body of a belted magnum, resulting in a short action powerhouse known as the .284 Winchester.  Soon thereafter wildcatters began to use it as a blank canvas to create several new cartridges over the next few decades.  It wasn’t until 1999 when Norma submitted a 6.5 mm version with a 35-degree shoulder and an overall case length of 2.170” that the 6.5-284 became readily available.  It quickly became a favorite among long-range shooters due to a combination of case capacity, accuracy, and comparatively low recoil.

“We decided to develop the tooling to produce the 6.5-284 Norma based on the success and popularity of that cartridge in the 600 and 1,000-yard Benchrest and F Class communities” Peterson Cartridge president Derek Peterson said.  “We want to provide our customers more options in our lineup of long-range cartridges and the 6.5-284 is a logical choice for those who want to launch high B.C. 6.5mm bullets at speeds in excess of 2,900 fps.”

Warning: Only use Peterson Cartridge Co. casings in firearms in good condition, designed, marked, and chambered for this cartridge. Do not use Peterson Cartridge Co casings for “fire forming” or any other purpose other than what they were designed and tested for. Peterson retains no responsibility for the enclosed casings if they are used outside of the manufacturer’s recommendations.

This is not loaded ammunition.

6.5-284 brass shortage

By Darrell N. on Apr 25, 2025
I don't know what is going on with Lapua, and I hope Peterson steps in to fill the void with 6.5-284 brass. Peterson makes a very good product. This cartridge is really one of the great 6.5 offerings. It's been popular for very good reason with long-range competitors, but in my family we use it for hunting everything from Pronghorn to big Mule Deer to Elk. If you like the results you obtain with the great .270 Winchester, you'll be equally satisfied with the 6.5-284 with better ballistic performance.. It is easy to load for, and hits game hard without much recoil.
