Product Information

Redding trim dies allow you to file trim your cases without unnecessary resizing because they are made to chamber dimensions. For case forming and necking brass down from another caliber, Redding trim dies can be the perfect intermediate step before full length resizing.

It simply did the job.

I was able to convert the .30-06 to the Argentine dimensions and hack off the excess with no issues. I have PPU brass, but I'm starting to enjoy the process of converting the cases.

REDDING 7.65MMx53 MAUSER FORM & TRIM DIE SERIES D

The Redding Form & Trim Die Series D Works Just as described.
It is designed to reform 30-06 brass to be used in a 7.65x53 Mauser. I used 8x57 Mauser brass as I did not have 30-06 brass
on hand and that worked just fine. I used a light coating of Lee resizing lube on the 8mm case below the shoulder and with one stroke of the Lee turret press the shoulder was pushed down to 7.65x53. The neck extending above the die was easily cut off with a hacksaw and final trimming with a fine tooth file. The hardened die was not scratched by the saw or file. The shoulder of the reformed case was not quite the required angle and I could not close the bolt on my rifle. I then ran the case through a 7.65x53 Argentine full length sizer die according to the Redding instructions and the shoulder was then formed to the proper angle. I did need to grind a few thousandths off of the shell holder I used for the final shoulder shaping with the full length die to obtain the required angle. This may or may not be required depending on the brand of full length resizing die you have. I marked that shell holder to be used only for that purpose. I then did a final case length check with the redding form and trim die. The resized case chambered smoothly in my 7.65x53
mm Mauser. For this application the case neck miked the same thickness as a Norma factory 7.65x53mm case so no neck reaming was required. On some other calibers when reforming requires the neck to be pushed lower the thickness of the new neck may be increased reducing the internal dimension of the neck to accept the bullet. Loading a bullet in that situation will cause the outside diameter of the neck to expand too much and the loaded cartridge may become too tight in the chamber neck causing a significant increase in chamber pressure when firing or possibly preventing the cartridge from chambering. It would be necessary to ream the inside of the neck to the proper thickness to chamber the round and prevent excessive pressure. There are UTUBE videos which cover the subject.
With both dies installed and adjusted on the turret press I can form and trim 50 8x57 or 30-06 cases in the same time it takes to reload 50 cartridges.I then have 50 7.65x53mm cases which I can reload over and over again. I am very happy with the Redding form and trim die.
