Great Truly Safe Safe, Easy To Move and Hide, My 2nd SnapSafe
By Mike T. on Jun 07, 2022My prior purchase was Grafs Item #: SS75011
Needing to assemble a SnapSafe is a big PLUS. The parts fit together so closely that I believe any SnapSafe to be nearly impenetrable within reasonable time restraints, like a few hours. Most steel is 9-gauge; competitors commonly use 14-gauge. When you need your safe to be somewhere else, just take a couple hours for disassembly, then reassembly in the next location. It took maybe 40 minutes to assemble, plus the time to bolt it to the floor. Piece of cake to disassemble and move to your next location. The heaviest part on this model might have weighed close to 145 pounds. The parts all fit very tightly, making this safe not susceptible to criminals with a heavy pry bar. The 9 gauge steel will break an axe. It won't cut quickly with a torch. NO PHOSPHORIC ACID RELEASED DURING A FIRE! No drywall to release acidic water for cooling during a fire, which will corrode your guns. Ceramic wool is used for insulation. At the start, I did take 10 minutes to double check the instructions, the parts list and proper labeling of the parts. All was well, and less than an hour after the inside delivery I was ready to bolt it to the floor.
Prior to buying a SnapSafe, I went to an extensive, non-commercial safe review website. After seeing home security videos on this site, I swore I would not buy a safe with less than 11-gauge steel, hopefully with an alternative to a drywall lining. I have moved 5 safes in the past and didn't enjoy moving any of them. SnapSafe exceeded my needs, at a price less than non-moveable safes of the same size and lesser steel. SnapSafe is what you need.
When I need my next additional safe, I hope for a 72 inch high SnapSafe.
Good Safe With Some Assembly Issues
By Charles W. on Jul 12, 2019I did the entire interior install by myself and it was far more difficult than it should have been. Firstly, several of the interior panels were mismarked with the identification stickers rotated incorrectly, missing entirely or, the worst, marked with the completely wrong label. There really aren’t too many parts so you can figure it out eventually, but what really threw me was the fact that the side panels were marked completely wrong. I saw the first side was labeled “right side” and put that into position on the right. The other side didn’t say anything about which side it was so I assumed it had to be the left. When I finally got everything into place, I found the doors wouldn’t shut as they interfered with the center and top shelves! Turns out the side labeled “right” was really the left which makes a big difference as it alters the position of the shelf bracket rails and subsequently the location of the shelf edges. Another issue contributing to the problem was that the diagrams in the owner’s manual are not for the XXL and provide no help in verifying which side is which beforehand. I had to remove everything from the interior (those pieces are tight!) and reassemble with the sides in the right orientation. Once that was done I had functional doors.
Three other items that weren’t as expected: 1, one of the nuts in the channel on the bottom interior piece was missing and the mounting screw was just loose. Fortunately, I had a nut that fit; 2, the top shelf has already started to sag with about 60 lbs of ammo on it; and 3, replacing the insulation and attaching the top interior panel is a real pain if the unit is in a vertical position.
After finally getting the safe assembled and functional I am glad I got it. One final thing though is that there’s no pre-drilled hole or way to run a 110 volt dehumidifier to an outlet. For a safe the price of the XXL, that’s pretty inexcusable.
