Product Information

Designed for hunting, self-defense and law enforcement applications, the XTP® bullet demonstrates the kind of accuracy that led many competitive shooters to adopt it. Reliable performance makes the XTP® the most popular handgun bullet for both target shooters and hunters. But it's the stopping power of the XTP® bullet that has truly built its world-class reputation. From the onset, XTP® bullets were specifically designed to expand reliably at a wide range of handgun velocities to deliver deep penetration with every shot.

  • CONTROLLED EXPANSION:  Precise serrations divide the XTP® into symmetrical sections, strategically weakening the jacket and initiating controlled expansion even at low velocities.
  • NO EXPOSED LEAD:  The gilding metal jacket protects the nose of the bullet, so the hollow cavity functions properly on impact and ensures proper feeding in semi-automatics.
  • SWAGED CORE:  Total uniformity of core density ensures balanced expansion as well as in-flight stability.
  • DRAWN GILDING METAL JACKET:  Expansion is controlled by varying jacket thickness down the length of the XTP®, providing a definite advantage over plated bullets which have a uniform jacket thickness over the entire bullet.
  • CANNELURE:  On revolver bullets, the cannelure helps achieve accurate, consistent crimping. All cannelures are applied before the final forming process to eliminate any distortion to the finished bullet.

This is not loaded ammunition.

XTP performance

By John P. on Jan 21, 2023
I use these bullets in both of my 357 magnum rifles, five revolvers(3 magnums and 2 38spl+p). They are very accurate and perform well on game animals with the right load. XTP bullets perform well across the whole range of weights and calibers I use them for.

Excellent 357 Mag. bullets!!

By Jim T. on Sep 05, 2022
These finally came back in stock so picked up several boxes, as they go quick. They are about the best hollow point bullet for defensive loads there is. Just checked and they are out of stock again. I think that pretty well sums up how good these bullets really are!! Glad I got a extra box or two.

Very Accurate.

By Donald M. on Sep 02, 2022
I size these down to .356 and shoot them out of my 350 Legend and they are extremely accurate with starline brass and H110 powder...

By David B. on Jun 16, 2021
Like all Hornady bullets, this JHP gives reliable accuracy in .357 magnum and .357 Maximum loads in my NEF single-shot rifle. Hornady is my go-to for bullets in any caliber.

Hornady 357/158gr. xtp

By Roger V. on Jul 07, 2020
Taken several deer with these.bullets from 50 to 150 yds. 2 DRT the third only went about 20 yds all with minimal meat damage. In my humble opinion the xtp is the best handgun hunting bullet made!

Super Bullet

By John G. on May 15, 2020
I use this bullet for my pet 357 Magnum load and it works great in in the .35 Contender for Deer.
Can also be used for plinking with "reduced recoil" loads in the 358 Winchester and 350 Rem Mag.

Hornady .357 158-grain HP XTP

By Jeff K. on Feb 11, 2020
The Hornady XTP line of bullets have a proven record for loading rounds designed for self-defense, but I use them in all of my loads because of their reliability and performance. I have shot my best groups with XTP bullets and they feed very well in my Beretta. I am sticking with them.

Hornady .357 158gr. HPXTP Bullets

By Robert W. on Mar 30, 2019
I load these for a S & W Model 19 circa 1971 with a 4" barrel and a Ruger Security Six circa 1978 with a 6" barrel. The Hornady has been my go to bullet for all types of varmint shooting, both 2 legged and 4 legged, since 1983. For accuracy, consistency, and penetration the Hornady XTP bullets work for me. I shovel a healthy dose of 2400 or Blue Dot into the case and I'm ready for fun. I never tire of shooting .357's.

The Best 357 Magnum Bullet

By Randy M. on Jan 21, 2019
This has been my standby for many years in handloads for my Dan Wesson 357 magnum revolver. Very accurate even when loaded to maximum velocities.

Hornady XTP Bullets

By Paul W. on Aug 10, 2018
The count is right on these, but it would be OK if they gave one extra. Lots of folks recognize and prefer the Hornady bullets.
