These dies work perfectly, resizing the brass and seating the bullet as you'd expect from the quality dies Hornady produces. Everything works as expected.

So why the four stars? That goes back to the confusion regarding the Carcano. Yes, it's called a 6.5 cartridge but it's not a "standard" 6.5 at 0.264 but rather a .268 diameter. This small difference leads to a lot of confusion regarding the Carcano and it's reputation for poor accuracy among shooters in the US. The slightly larger bore of the Carcano can lead to reduced accuracy when using standard .264 projectiles. This leads to the expander shipped with the die set, as it's a .264 expander meant for standard 6.5 projectiles. If .268 diameter projectiles are desired (with much better accuracy resulting) then an additional expander must be located to seat a bullet without scraping off copper or cutting lead.

One suggestion is to add in the set multiple expanders such as done with "oversize" .30 cal die sets such as the .303 Brit or 7.62x54r from some die makers.

If you are aware of the size difference it's not a big deal and true .268 bullets are more difficult to find. The .264 size will produce ammo that shoots and keep the vintage rifles fed.
